Melbourne's jade imagine offer punchy synths and smooth pop vocals on “Remote Control”
“Remote Control” is the latest offering from Australian group jade imagine, released through Courtney Barnett’s label Milk! Records and Marathon Artists. The single comes with the announcement of the release of the trio's debut LP Basic Love, set for release this August.
Flittering between slow alt-pop verses to punchy electro-tinged choruses, jade imagine's sci-fi inspired new track is packed with catchy synths and vivacious drums. Jade McInally’s smooth and elegant vocals contrast the sharp '80s chorus hooks, yet are wonderfully complemented by the fuzzy guitars of the bridge. The track is accompanied by a sun-drenched video co-produced by McInally and Lilli Waters, and features tactille flowing textures and a fight over an actual remote control.
“'Remote Control' is a song about the conflict between reality & escape and the two worlds we live in,” says McInally, “dreaming and denial in a world of practicalities and productivity. It’s an exploration into synth territory. We wanted this track to be equal parts spooky and catchy, like taking a night-drive in a 1980s sci-fi film.”
