Listen: J. Tropic - "Solid Gold"
J. Tropic was bound for success when the Brighton-based producer left tropical-flavored trails all around with his debut track, “Love Up”, in May. The track encapsulated juicy production along with a mix of 90s RnB and dance throwbacks, a combination that put the producer under the watchful eye of Best Fit.
After a quiet summer spent bathing in the glorious, glistening and clear waters of “Love Up”, J. Tropic re-emerged with his debut EP of the same title.
With fantastical artwork that features exotic animals of all sorts (including lime-tinted parakeets) the EP also features the tracks “Solid Gold” and “What U Are”. “Solid Gold” is a definitely more dimly-toned affair, alternating crackling RnB verses to a clattering dance chorus. The husky vocalist speaks frankly to her other half, highlighting his materialistic and high-maintenance attitude like a twisted and reversed “Million Dollar Bill”.
Filled with slow jamming synths alternated to pumped-up keyboard chords and dollar-sign sound effects, the track is an ambitious work that in little more than three minutes delivers J. Tropic’s suave and warped 90s nostalgia.
Love-Up will be the fifth release on the ever-so-beneficent patrons that are Duly Noted Records, on 27 October.
