Experimental duo indigoworld break out of limbo with the shimmering catharsis of "deadinthewater"
The product a remote working relationship, indigoworld's second single doubles as an autobiography for the times they thought they couldn't pull this off.
Fast forward and it all worked out. The partnership of musicians Alice Kim and Justin Trout, indigoworld have spent two years going back and forth online perfecting the material that would become their debut EP.
Despite going to the same school, The Frost School of Music in Miami, Kim and Trout preferred to go it alone and sending rallies of demos to one another to chop, skew and perfect. In that time Kim also released her debut full-length project under solo moniker Hunjiya where she crafts her love of alternative pop into something more soulful.
As a band, indigoworld released their first single earlier this year, the ethereal "hourglass" pieced together their fragmented influences forming an enchanting introduction. "deadinthewater" is more abrasive, but even more intoxicating for it. A blur of synths, Kim's enticing vocals and distorted screams capture the track's frustrating battle. Kim says the lyrics reflect a “personal experience being in an unforeseen limbo phase of a previous long-term relationship.”
"It's a song for anyone who's tired of waiting for something to happen," Trout adds. Their upcoming EP Fold is set for release in October and will see at least one waiting period coming to an end. With "deadinthewater" we get to see more of indigoworld's collective vision unfurl; it opens the door to the even more explosive, expansive sounds waiting on the other side.
