Listen: Groves – “Paperback”
Groves have only been together a few months but make one of the most cool and assured noises we’ve heard this Autumn from a fledgling outfit with new track “Paperback”.
The song’s groove is everything: anchored in a beat that wouldn’t be out of place on a Rumours off-cut, it fills out a four minute space that winds around itself almost endlessly in a warm folk disco-tinged hum. It’s a jam that reveals more on every listen, rich with the same underplayed sensitivity that Brighton’s GAPS are also doing a lot with right now.
The band played their first show last week and follow it up tonight with a slot at Indo (Whitechapel Road, London). Listen to “Paperback” below.
