Self-genrified as Afropsych, to say that the new track from Golden Dawn Arkestra is unlike anything you’ve ever heard before would be nothing short of a certainty. And as it’s name would suggest, it’s a bit out-of-this-world, in so many more ways than one.
Gently ebbing and flowing to begin, the track’s lo-fi beginnings take a very different turn when the Sly Stone-esque horns take off. Joined by an army of instrumentation - which includes percussion, synthesizers, vibraphone and bass clarinet - from that point on there’s really no looking back. It’s intergalactic, it’s a little bit weird, and it’s bloody great.
Zapot Mgawi of the band says: "We are so excited about our new sonic recordings, as our band has grown both in size and depth. We feel the recording perfectly captures this growth, as well as the grandness of our universe and human potential. We hope these sonic vibrations bring you great joy. Praise RA."
Have a listen to the eponymous track from their debut LP - which is set to drop early 2016 via Modern Imperial – below.
