We don't know much about GIMI, but we do know this debut single "In Case We Die" is pretty special
You can count the things we know about new artist GIMI on one hand. In fact, you don't need all the digits.
We know that GIMI is of Danish-Albanian origin, currently lives in London and doesn't identify with a gender. Three things. Four, if we count that debut single "In Case We Die" is a seriously great way to introduce yourself to the world.
GIMI makes sultry and intense music. There's elements of SOHN in the gentle throb and hum of the synths, while the undulating beats carved out of chopped vocal samples call to mind the R&B-tinged electronica of Kill J. Vocally, GIMI sings in a pure voice but with an intensity and intimacy that's reflected in the song's lyrics. "I want you to know that every moment spent with you / was like breathing when you are underwater / trying not to drown" is a powerful way to start any song, let alone your debut track.
The theme of loss is writ large across "In Case We Die", none more so than in the line "kiss my palm / one last time before / we let time tie our hands" and the overall feelings is of something slipping away as the song rises to a stirring crescendo featuring a choir of voices that fades out all too soon.
We might not know much right now, but on this evidence GIMI is going to have to reveal a lot more to a demanding public.
