Madlib is surely amongst the most prolific producers in the world. He’s currently working on a full-length release with Freddie Gibbs, he’s just finished his Medicine Show series, and now he’s producing the second album from erstwhile Stones Throw labelmate Georgia Anne Muldrow.
‘Seeds’ is more than just ’70s-inspired. It’s more like an homage; the sound of smoky San Francisco clubs, race riots, and wafty new age mysticism – all delivered atop an unmistakably hip-hop production. Irritating lyrical content aside, it’s a bracing piece of free-form, jazz-inflected soul, executed in delightfully spirited fashion.
‘Seeds’ is taken from Muldrow and Madlib’s forthcoming album of the same name, out on SomeOthaShip later this year.
