George Maple's new song "Lover" is a dark and glossy gem
Producer/songwriter George Maple is sharing new single "Lover", and its accompanying visuals starring model Jordan Barrett.
"Lover" is a super-slick bout of brooding R&B greatness. It's in a similar vein to FKA twigs and BANKS, with shadows reigning supreme and gorgeously glossy hooks galore - but Maple adds her own signature twists, with pummelling percussion and a brilliantly OTT axe solo searing through the smoothness.
Fashion photographer Darren McDonald has directed the visuals, which were shot in an equestrian centre in Sydney.
Maple says of the vid: “I wanted to capture the beauty in the primal obsession of love. Messy love. Destructive love. The dopamine effect. The power of loss or struggle and what it drives humans to do. I wanted to capture that feeling in a film, I wanted to feel the rage and confusion of complex love, or love you simply don’t want to have but can’t seem to get away from. It could be the wrong timing, or you could be involved with someone else, it could be forbidden love, they could be completely wrong for you but there’s a magnetism that drives you completely insane.”
