Funkineven is becoming a regular fixture in our Songs Of The Day. ‘Phoneline’, the Eglo mainstay’s recent collaboration with Fatima, was featured on these pages just a few days ago – and now he’s back with a new track, ‘Dusk’.
‘Dusk’ is taken from another collaborative record, this time made with Detroit producer Kyle Hall under their brilliant Funkinevil moniker. ‘Night’, the first track to materialise from their debut EP, was a motorway-sized pile-up of serrated hats and oddly pitched drums. ‘Dusk’, meanwhile, is the sound of a long-forgotten funk band lost somewhere in the outer reaches of the universe, playing and playing, gradually more delirious, until the air runs out in their suits. Eminently danceable and mildly disturbing.
‘Dusk’ is taken from the Funkinevil EP, out later this month on Kyle Hall’s Wild Oats label. H/t to Boiler Room.
