Field Studies diversify their sound on the hauntingly heavy “Listener”
Art-rock quartet Field Studies have unveiled their new track “Listener”, the first to be taken from their forthcoming EP Rainmaking.
2015 was a successful year for the band. Having already gathered support from Radio 1’s Huw Stephens, BBC 6 Music’s Tom Robinson and John Kennedy of Radio X, Field Studies are held in high esteem and will be looking to state their intentions as one of the most exciting prospects of 2016.
It’s handy then, that “Listener” is a triumph for the four-piece.
Punctuated by an industrial beat, the track begins with an acoustic rhythm whilst accompanied by ethereal style vocals. It's an ominous introduction that soon gives way to Radiohead-esque prog rock madness - a distant relative to "My Iron Lung".
Speaking about the new album and the track, the band says: "The new record was self-recorded in a cold industrial space and serves as a reflection of certain stuff that we were going through at the time of writing - like those weird time capsules/boxes of junk that people bury and then dig up years later.
"The single 'Listener' deals primarily with the uncomfortable pressure of responsibility, as well as greed, paranoia and various other nasty things."
This is a song that has fan favourite written all over it, and it's a tantalising preview for May's highly anticipated Rainmaking.
“Listener” is released on 22 April exclusively from the band’s own Bandcamp page. Live dates below.
