Ellie Bleach spins an irresistibly raucous '70s tale on "I Thought I Saw You Last Night"
With her previous single entitled "He Bought Me Nikes" described as a “Baroque anthem that compared a past boyfriend to a cult-leader, with extra harpsichord to boot”, you can be pretty certain that conventional isn’t a word that’s appropriate for Ellie Bleach.
The South-London based artist has supported Kate Nash in the past and drawn comparison to Lily Allen and Fiona Apple, in part due to her razor-sharp wit and her ability to draw on a wide range of musical styles. Mostly though, Ellie Bleach is all about putting the fun back into music, allowing us to embrace a moment of raucous escapism.
“I Thought I Saw You Last Night” is a modern take on the struggle to move on from a past relationship, aided by an acerbic delivery and a sound that encapsulates extravagant disco. The result is a compelling, foot-stomping track that’ll put a smile on your face for more than one reason.
Ellie Bleach · I Thought I Saw You Last NightInspired after listening to the ABBA song "If It Wasn’t For The Nights", Ellie explains that her new track “is about watching a former lover move on when they’re still at the forefront of your mind. I found out someone I was once involved with had a new girlfriend and kept fantasising about crashing their future wedding. There are parts of people that stay with you years after the relationship has finished, like hearing their favourite song play in a bar.”
