Ebo Taylor is now well on his way to attaining ‘legendary’ status. The Ghanaian artist had been thought of as the preserve of particularly enthusiastic highlife fans, but thanks to Strut he is now enjoying an international renaissance.
Taylor’s forthcoming album Appia Kwa Bridge includes a number of Ghanaian standards, including this beautifully pared back version of ‘Yaa Amponsah’. Showcasing his extraordinarily compelling voice in a different context to that of his more upbeat work, the track helps to demonstrate the breadth of Taylor’s unique talent.
Appia Kwa Bridge is out 16 April on Strut. Watch Taylor talk about making the record here.
