It is safe to say that Carpark Records cleaned up pretty comprehensively last year. Their roster reads like a Who’s Who of lo-fi/chillwave/bedroom-core (I think I made that last one up), boasting amongst its ranks the likes of Toro Y Moi, Cloud Nothings, and Dan Deacon.
The latest release from this veritable breeding ground of a-bit-geeky-but-a-bit-cool acts comes courtesy of North Carolina boy-girl duo Ear Pwr. Apparent ambivalence towards vowels aside, Ear Pwr are characterised by kitchen sink percussion and the sort of analogue synth sounds that you know were slaved over for hours on end. He plays the synths, she sings – the melodies simple and yet engrossing, playful and yet with a slightly menacing undertone..
‘Baby Houses’ is the first track to materialise from the duo’s second album, which is due out on 23rd May. Ear Pwr will be appearing at Animal Collective’s ATP, and there will presumably be more UK dates around that time.
