DWEN’s debut release “Deadard” is a full on 80s’ slow jam
Unorthodox and beautiful in equal measure, “Deadard” combines the sultry tones of Bibio with Cocteau Twins ambiance.
The resurgence of 80s’ inspired production has taken the music world by storm for the last couple of years. Often, artists just regurgitate the drum sounds of the era and then do some falsetto and call it a day so, it is a rare treat when an act do something a little bit different.

Newcomers Dwen are one such band, melding together swirling synthesis with a syncopated but simplistic rhythm section. The vocals are reminiscent of Bernard Sumner and Geographer’s Mike Deni, like an extension of once powerful singer that has reverted to conjuring up moods rather than making melodies. Although "Deadard" at first glance could be mistaken for a questionable Oi! punk anthem it's really just a groovy hip shaker fit for first thing Monday morning.
