DEMS hold a mirror up to London's housing crisis with incendiary comeback single "Gold"
DEMS are angry. They’re angry about London’s rising rents and greedy property moguls – and they want you to be angry about it with them.
“Gold”, the first single released from the band in a year, hears vocalist Dan Moss cry “you’re richer than gold/do not try to test my resolve” impassionately over thick swabs of distorted bass and industrial electronica.
Moss and fellow bandmates David and Duncan were recently pushed out of their creative hub - an abandoned post office in South London - by developers seemingly set on building flats for the 1 per cent.
Frustrated, the band have channeled that energy into an explosive three-and-a-half minutes of propulsive, polemical pop that could well become an anthem for Generation Rent.
Speaking about the track, the band says: “We have been busy working on a body of new material over the past year recorded in South London and Montreal. This is the first track we are releasing and are very excited to bring you more this coming year, with accompanying experimental videos and artwork.
"We're delighted and anxious in equal measure to share this first through The Line of Best Fit; we're grateful for all their support of the songs from our debut album Muscle Memory."
