Damu‘s Mermaid EP, released on the fantastic Local Action earlier this year, is one of my most-played records of the last few months. It’s a collection of out of breath, late-night-early-morning tracks that would, in a not so different world, be all over daytime Radio One.

‘Don’t Cry In My Bed’ is the closing track from the Manchester producer’s debut LP Unity, and it’s a suitably grandiose tune on which to end. It is shot through with last-night-on-earth melancholy, and steeped in panoramic synth lines – and also features a pitch-shifted Drake paying homage to Dead Prez.
