Dama Scout announce debut EP and share grizzled lead single "Suzie Wong"
Glasgow/London group Dama Scout have announced their debut self-titled EP and bright and breezy lead track "Suzie Wong".
The new four-track short-player follows an assortment of one-offs and singles (including the rather ace "Paper Boy"). It's set to be their first release for new label Hand In Hive, the London-based independent that's also home to Swimming Tapes, Wyldest, and Saltwater Sun.
Dama Scout's technique of sugar-crusted guitar hooks is deliciously catchy, and combined with frontwoman Eva Liu’s glossy vocal, marks them out as exciting voices. The track’s toylike guitar hook is exactly that - it comes from an impromptu performance on a child’s guitar, captured on a laptop microphone, that was impossible to recreate in the studio. The child’s guitar remains in the track, sticky sweet in the final master. Dama Scout's sound summons images of a summer’s night sunset refracted through a calm waterfall, the gorgeous guitar sounds and warm vocal flows as if it were a waterside hazy dusk.
