Dale Earnhardt Jr Jr. It sounds like a long-forgotten finger-picking Delta bluesman, no?
Well…no, actually. Dale Earnhardt Jr Jr is, in fact, a Detroit duo, making sparkling, scatty electronic pop that sounds rather like a more bombastic Yeasayer, or a more focused Passion Pit.
‘Morning Thought’ is taken from their debut album It’s A Corporate World, set for a UK release some time next year. It is instantly familiar, with its catchily mournful vocal and crunchy guitars. Give it a couple of months and this will be that track – you know, the one that’s on every mobile phone advert ever, but which everyone loves anyway because despite being horribly overplayed, it’s still really, really good.
Dale Earnhardt Jr Jr play Proud 12 October. In the meantime, download ‘Morning Thought’ below.
