First of all, congrats, guys, on happening upon one of the best band names in history.
Crash & The Bandicoots sound like a hundred things all at once. They describe themselves as “lo-fi pop”, but they are definitively not part of the ever-growing spew of bands with a tape recorder, a ’90s obsession, and no musical ability. Rather, Crash and co have pieced together with remarkable precision a collage of some of the most exciting elements of English pop, along with an undercoat of Talking Heads-esque rhythmic invention. ‘Don’t Have Any Legs’, to which we were introduced by the ever excellent Don’t Die Wondering, immediately brings to mind the unfairly overlooked Electric Soft Parade – all cheap drum machine backing and globular, cartoony synth sounds. Fun, inventive, and one of the most exciting new bands I’ve heard all year.
‘Don’t Have Any Legs’ is taken from the the band’s debut EP, which you can get from their Bandcamp.
