Songwriter and poet Christinna O excels with her essential new single "Hot Head"
Philadelphia-based singer/songwriter and spoken word artist Christinna O continues to be a vital queer voice as she shares her first release of 2020.
Last year's Girl In Passing EP was an exciting and eclectic introduction to the many talents of Christinna O. "Lay It Down" was a highlight and similarly "SHINE" followed suit as another rousing addition to her songbook. "Hot Head" sees O continue to explore her identity through her art, it symbolically documents her life with bipolar disorder.
"[This song] expresses how hard it is to speak and be heard for your truths, especially as a Black woman, as a queer Black woman, as a Black queer woman who lives with mental health obstacles," she explains. ""Hot Head" is a mouthpiece for my often held rage. This song meets me at the fork in the road, with the option of imploding or getting it all out."
Her introspective autobiographical commentary is once again heightened by her intense emotive vocal delivery. Produced by Kanye West and A$AP Rocky collaborator Daniel Lynas, the slow-burning track is an absolute gem and the perfect soundtrack to moments of poignant reflection.
