Listen: Christian Gregory - "Won't Get Nowhere"
Following-on from November’s funk-filled debut “Count On You”, Christian Gregory returns with a sultry second outing, showing-off further soul sensibilities and proving again why Michael Kiwanuka’s new label is well-worth keeping an eye on.
This downtempo, more emotionally-charged effort oozes a late-night loungey feel as it saunters woozily along. Gregory’s characteristic bluesy vocal sets him apart in the singer-songwriter mold, as a floating falsetto is mixed with a wash of laid-back layers, before a screaming guitar solo joins splashing cymbals to pack a punch.
Due for release on 7 July via the aforementioned Movement Records, stream “Won’t Get Nowhere” below. The title is misleading; it’s an artist, and indeed a label that, are destined to go places.
