Ghostly are becoming something of a Renaissance label. For many they are associated exclusively with floaty electronica, but the Michigan curators have become adept at plucking gems from across the genre spectrum – one of which is Danish outfit Choir Of Young Believers.
Taken from the band’s forthcoming second album Rhine Gold, ‘Sedated’ isn’t so much genre-less as genre-hopping. Using as its building blocks the calypso-lite rhythms of the East coast college towns, the easy melodicism of the classic ’80s songwriters, and the lilting vocals of the hazy Scandinavian gloss-pop we talk so much about on The Line Of Best Fit, ‘Sedated’ is a great many things all at once – just like its label.
Rhine Gold is out 9 April on Ghostly.
