Listen: Cheerleader - "Perfect Vision"
Worried that the promising trend of explosive yet intelligent pop may be starting to dry up? 2014 has been awash with impressive, sugary offcuts, and in “Perfect Vision”, a song that initially flickered into life two years ago, Cheerleader have unleashed arguably the best that we have heard for some time.
Citing influences as diverse as Wu-Tang Clan, Pixies and Otis Redding, the Philadelphia five piece have embraced the colossal, hook-laden crescendo of their debut tracks but submerged “Perfect Vision” beneath swathes of icy synths and thunderous percussion.
Joe Haller’s layered vocals remain suitably woozy, resembling a group chant rather than a blissful croon, ensuring that choruses are simply destined to be screamed in unison by festival crowds during the forthcoming summer months. Make sure you’re down the front.
“Perfect Vision” / “Waiting, Waiting” will be issued on limited edition vinyl on 16 June via Young & Lost / Bright Antenna and is available for digital download on 28 April.
