Charlotte Carpenter muses on loss and hope in new festive-ish track "Cheer"
Kettering-based singer/songwriter Charlotte Carpenter debuts her new Christmas track "Cheer" - it'll leave you breathless.
"Cheer" arrives after impressive recent single "Fire", and sees Carpenter turn the traditional 'festive banger' on its head - this is an intimate, bittersweet ode with Daughter-like textures creeping in and a profound sense of loss in every note. It might not kickstart the office party, but it's certainly a poignant antidote to the season of perpetual pep. It's dark, but light makes its way in.
"I wrote this song with the memory of a particular Christmas three years ago," says Carpenter. "It was the year my Nan passed away, and my mum was doing all that she could to keep herself busy, but ultimately to keep me and my sister from being upset without Nan around the dinner table. I feel like this is something which resonates amongst every family and from that memory, I wrote ‘Cheer’."
Carpenter will be playing London's The Victoria on 2 March 2017. Tickets are available now.
