Charlotte Carpenter marches into the unknown with outlaw folk single "Electric"
Charlotte Carpenter is sharing "Electric", the first taste of her upcoming How Are We Ever To Know EP, on Best Fit.
During "Electric" Carpenter's rich vocals cast shadows across the chugging country-rock riffage and mechanical bass - it's a dark piece of outlaw folk, with cyclic, unending pace and foot-stompin' drums. It marches into the unknown with purpose, Carpenter at the vangaurd, and oozes confidence from every strum, beat, and note to give us a striking preview of her new music.
Speaking about the track, Carpenter says: “'Electric' was born after a show with my band at Simon Says Festival last year. We played De Montfort Hall; one of those venues near to home which I’d always dreamed of playing, and I had this strange out of body experience. We were playing a song from my previous EP, Wasted. Things were louder, bigger than ever before, my heart was racing and It suddenly hit me just how much I was changing as a person and as a musician. It empowered me, gave me a clear sign of the direction I was going in and at that time I felt so proud of my band and the choices we had made to get to this point. After the show, it led me to question who in my life was coming with me on this journey, and who wasn’t.”
The How Are We Ever To Know EP is out 10 June on her own imprint Let It Go. It was recorded with Lee Russell (Nada Surf, Kate Walsh) at Dulcitone studios.
