Listen: Cape Lion - "Mainland" [Premiere]
Adrift after some days, probably on some luxury yacht, you think, brain pureed on a host of illicit substances. You just blew it with the girl you brought with you, and she really fucking liked you too – you idiot. But you’ve finally spied land – the chance to maybe make amends, to at least find solid footing and perhaps start fresh.
We here at Best Fit are proud to premiere Stockholm duo Cape Lion’s “Mainland”, the latest in an impressive string of insistent and immeasurably danceable singles. Ushered in on an undeniable keyboard riff and driven by pulsing synths, “Mainland” is a synthpop ode to the foibles of throwing your life away up your nose and the quest for redemption thereafter:
“'Mainland' is basically about how all your actions have consequences and that sometimes it gets out of your control. It's about watching everything fall apart but also that, eventually, you can pick up the pieces and move on.”
We could have just stumbled out of any ‘80s movie, bloated silly on excess, and that’s exactly what Cape Lion is so damn good at summoning up. While the whole ‘80s nod is hot right now, much of it referential to that time and place, these guys are the real deal.
