‘Girls On Medication’, the latest release from new Lucky Number signing Caged Animals is a louche, sordid little number. It is an unnervingly frank confession of lust for an over-opiated young lady – and it also has one of the best choruses we have posted here in a long time.
In fact, Caged Animals is a pretty fitting name. There is a sense of restriction here, of below-the-surface anger restrained by the programmed drums and ruthlessly compressed guitar. The verse is a simple, two-chord affair – but then that chorus appears, coming off all Elton John circa ‘Bennie…’ and with a melody that hasn’t left my head since I first heard it last week.
‘Girls On Medication’ is out on limited 7″ on 4th July, with the debut album due later this year. In the meantime, grab the track below.
