We’ve gushed about Burning Buildings in the past. Their noisy-but-pretty, intricate-but-fun EPs are pitched, as we said, somewhere between Hot Club de Paris and The Delgados.
The Manchester band played their first London show last week, and it was about as good as we could have hoped. Gloriously chaotic, it involved, amongst other nice tics, the outsourcing of percussion duties to the audience.
You can expect, we imagine, to see rather more of Burning Buildings around the country soon. In the meantime, though, satiate yourself with ‘Knowing Not Knowing’ – a brand new, characteristically schizophrenic track. It veers between chugging, power-chord scuzz, delicate fingerpicking, gang-like wordless vocal and beautiful harmony, all within the space of four-and-a-bit (frequently hideously produced), time signature-shifting minutes. It’s utterly brilliant.
‘Knowing Not Knowing’ is taken from the first instalment of the Leg Guitar vs Tuck Shop EPs, which will apparently be released for free every quarter. You can download the track below, or get the whole EP here.
