There are few things more exciting (and more unusual) than receiving a record, unsolicited, and finding that it is, in fact, utterly brilliant.
Burning Buildings, a “fuzzy three-piece from Manchester” whose email caught my eye because it contained a picture of their dog, make harmonically beautiful but rhythmically scrappy songs that flit between Great Eastern-era Delgados emoting and noisy, Jetplane Landing-esque guitar stabs.
The Sleep Tapes is Burning Buildings’ latest release, the standout from which is opening track ‘Great Circular O’. It begins with doleful Casio arpeggios, before eventually breaking down into the sort of ending that one might expect to hear on a lost Hot Club de Paris track.
You can download ‘Great Circular O’ below, and get the rest of Burning Buildings’ back catalogue from their Bandcamp.
