The eagle-eyed amongst you will note that we’ve already featured this song. Brandt Brauer Frick‘s version (itself a remix-cum-cover of Emika‘s original) is the highlight from their extraordinary Mr Machine; an album that sees the German trio, plus ensemble, rework half a dozen tracks – including some of their own. Confusing, no?
As if to make the remix-within-a-remix hall of mirrors just the little bit more confusing, Soul Clap have taken ‘Pretend’ and recast it as a hazy house delight. Emika’s mournful vocal keeps the limelight, but here it is bolstered by the witching-hour blur for which the Boston duo are so well loved.
Mr Machine is out now on !K7. Look out for an interview with Brand Brauer Frick in the next few days.
