Billie Marten unveils modern day lullaby “Milk & Honey”
Following on from her impressive latest single "Bird", Billie Marten’s new endeavour “Milk & Honey” builds on her characteristic folk-tinged melodies and innocent lyricism.
Billie Marten seems to glide through ear drums and into the hearts of new and dedicated listeners alike. Still achingly young, she delivers a refreshing mix of auburn folk and low key pop whilst managing to convey wisdom and talent well beyond her tender years.
The influence of nu folk acts like Laura Marling and Noah and The Whale are obvious - even the likes Portishead and Marten's contemporary Marika Hackman. The track itself, with its subtle horns and swooning vocals, lifts the soul to a reflective plain and back to a simpler time.
Marten says the track is “a song about the greed of people, the thoughts that we’re all sort of stuck in this consumerist frame of mind”
Needless to say, we'll be consuming “Milk and Honey” avariciously.
"Milk & Honey" is available digitally now. The single's 7” vinyl release is on 10 June.
