Beach Skulls explore all the complexities of falling in love on jangling new number "Love And Sex"
Beach Skulls get real about relationship anxiety as they warm up for the release of their sophomore album.
At first, you may think that this twinkling little number was made for an American prom scene as it conjures up those romantic waltz scenes under a disco ball in a school hall. But when it cuts in with the striking line "Girl, I don't think that I am the one", the doubt that permeates through the track's glossy exterior comes to the forefront.
“It's about when you first meet someone and you're a bit apprehensive about taking the relationship any further," Explains guitarist Ry Veira of the song's origins, "One part of you thinks 'yeah, just go for it', but there's also all the emotional worries that come with it. The song is about being in between them two places.”
Soaked in sun-drenched harmonies that are underpinned by a gorgeous waltz-ing rhythm, the song espouses a scene of two worlds, where love is present but so is a kind of existential confidence that the whole thing is doomed. Beauty and excitement, lust and doubt all have their place in this devastatingly heartfelt song as it truly brings to light all the emotions that are related to a new love.
The track is taken from the trio's upcoming sophomore album, Las Dunas, a body of work that the band describe as being about the struggles of social media anxiety and dealing with the idea that life is passing by us all.
