Beach Baby up the ante with “Limousine”
Early this year the ever-reliable Chess Club Records introduced the world to Beach Baby through the lo-fi, heartwarming “Ladybird”. The gorgeous earworm felt, and continues to feel, like something from everyone’s favourite new indie film and immediately held our attention.
A handful of impressive releases later and the Goldsmiths alumni - co-vocalists and guitarists Ollie and Lawrence, drummer Shep and Iraklis on bass - are really beginning to feel like the finished article; a four-piece offering something for everyone with an affinity to sparkling rock-pop.
“Limousine” calls on the production skills of Adam Jaffrey (Bloc Party, Dev Hynes, Django Django) and appears via another noteworthy team in Handsome Dad Records - behind the deserved rise of Spring King. The result is their most assured, revved-up and jubilant cut to date: “We ride round town in a limousine / And we get it on,” cries the build-up to a typically punchy, suitably driving chorus.
In the simmering renaissance of guitar-led UK indie, Beach Baby are real flag-bearers and we’re expecting to see a lot more from the London four as we move into 2016. Stream “Limousine” below; it’s our brilliant Song Of The Day.
