LA collective B00ty channel the sexy epic spirit of soul and funk on the soaring "Holy"

As the driving force behind B00ty, former UCLA students Edan Freiberger and Adam Epelbaum have created a behemoth musical force, where nods back to the great funk and soul pioneers of the '70s go hand in hand with a very contemporary and almost scientific deconstruction of the hedonism behind universal dance music.

"Holy" sounds like Jimmy Ruffin's "What Becomes of the Broken Hearted" had a bastard and that kid grew up with a boner for Logic and a deep seated desire to put Lots Of Fucking Strings On Everything Humanly Possible.

"This song shows a new side of us, we went back to our earliest influences, and moved away from electronic," Epelbaum tells us. "We were both going through breakups, coping with unforeseeable circumstances in our lives."

Freiberger adds, "I grew up on Motown, Sam Cooke, Al Greene…My dad taught me how to read using Beatles lyrics. I wanted to write a song that my heroes would want to sing if they were around today, but set it in the context of now."

Freiberger and Epelbaum were both raised in creative environments. Freiberger grew up in San Francisco witha passion for learning every instrument he could find while Miami-born Epelbaum's thing was films, comedy and screenwriting. They both work day jobs, with Freiberger producing music for cinema and Epelbaum a scriptwriter. Fleshing out B00ty with drummer Connor Irias , guitarist Nick Setter, bassist/horn player Jesse McGinty and back up vox from Rhea Dummett (who sang on Pharrell Williams' "Happy") and Sade Clacken Joseph, the collective have earned themsleves a strong rep on the LA live circuit.

They're also another band brushed with the craftsmanship of 10K Islands, the Miami/LA-based song house resonsible for Bad Wave, who are putting out 52 singles this year as part of their Friday singles club. "Holy" was recorded with 10K's Brian “B-Rob” Robertson and and produced in one day - like all the best songs.

"We make electronic soul,” they say, “and improvisation is at the heart of everything we do.”

"Holy" is released on 3 June via 10K Islands.
