Listen: astronomyy – 'Things I'd Do For U'
The website of the mysterious astronomyy might look like a witch-house tumblr gone wrong but the slow-build R&B of the Worcestershire-born songwriter and multi-instrumentalist – who we now know as guy named Arron – tugs upon the frayed soundscapes opened in recent years by the likes of The xx and James Blake.
The rigid snap beat of new track ‘Things I’d Do For You’ find astronomy’s songwriting shining out from within an underplayed production that balances the interplay between meltingly clipped guitar lines and a drowned, velvety vocal.
“‘Things I’d Do For U’ was written and recorded between 2-9 July,” explains Arron to Best Fit, “so it’s as new to me as it is to the world. I’m keeping it fresh for now. It’s an escapism song, which is why it sounds a little dreamy and otherworldly.”
