Our love affair with Apparat continues. Berlin’s Sascha Ring, who started his musical life DJing hard techno (we like to imagine him standing motionless, Speedy J-esque, while a crowd nod spasmodically below him) but has now practically abandoned beats altogether, is set to release his new solo EP, The Devil’s Walk, in September.
The record is a pretty significant departure from Ring’s early work – and, indeed, from his globe-trotting collaborations with either Modeselektor or Ellen Allien.
‘Black Water’, the second song to materialise from the record, sees Ring’s cracked vocals given a prominence that they have not previously enjoyed. It is a fragile yet forceful track that immediately brings to mind ‘Headup’, the standout from 2007′s Walls.
Apparat plays the Scala on 25 July, with TLOBF favourites Ghosting Season in support. In the meantime, grab ‘Black Water’ below.
