Best Fit Mix #7: Samaris

22 July 2013, 13:54 | Written by The Line of Best Fit

The fragile electronica of Icelandic trio Samaris brings together post-dupstep clicks and glitches with 19th century Icelandic poetry, which informs much of the lyrical content delivered by singer Jófríður Ákadóttir.

Against this backdrop, her vocal (a more gentler tool in her other band Pascal Pinon) becomes utterly hypnotising and unforgettable – matched against Áslaug Rún Magnúsdóttir’s clarinet and Þórður Kári Steinþórsson’s haunting downtempo electronics.

Þórður has created a bewildering mix especially for Best Fit that zones in on their many influences.

“It has been pretty grey and gloomy weather in Reykjavík all summer so I figured it’d be fitting to start with Larry Heard’s Summertime Breeze,” he explains.”You know so you could at least put your mind in the mood to be chilling in the sun drinking a Fanta Lemon. But when you’ve drunk all the Fanta you look outside the window to see the grey clouds and the rain are still there.”

Curated exclusively for Best Fit, listen to a 45 minute journey into the creative minds of Samaris below:
