ZoZo’s “A Bitter Gourd” gives a glimpse into the North's exciting DIY scene
Following recent single “NoNo”, ZoZo have announced the release of EP A Bitter Gourd via Leeds based indie label Hatch Records.
An intelligent combination of NYC post-punk and math rock makes ZoZo a strong contender for most exciting act coming out of Leeds right now.
All the members are part of the CHUNK collective, the rehearsal studio and venue that sits right at the heart of the city and has been a bastion of all things weird, wonderful and uncouth in Leeds for time immemorial.
Produced by Hookworms’ MJ, “A Bitter Gourd” is electrifying, terrifying and has a sublime complexity that is not standoffish by any measure, rather it draws on a listeners' instinctive inquistiviness towards the challenging and the involuted.

Talking about their track frontman Fred said: "A Bitter Gourd was written and recorded in 2016 at Suburban Home Studios with MJ. After a year of touring and gigging across the UK and Europe in 2015-2016, the EP acts as a culmination of that time in our lives. It covers a wide range of influences designed to make you move and think. Lyrically it touches on topics of consumerism, isolation, memory and violence. We formed in 2014 over a shared love of NYC post-punk - Talking Heads, LCD Soundsystem, ESG et al - but have cut our teeth on the music of our UK DIY contemporaries. As such, our sound falls somewhere between these two camps.
