Zilla’s “The Sleepwalker” is playful and effortless pop
“The Sleepwalker”, the playful second single from Zilla, is a punchy, hook-laden pop track in the vein of Kelis.
After contributing guest vocals to tracks from UK labels including Hypercolour and Warp Records, Zilla stepped out solo with debut single “Get Your Way”. Immediately picked up by Elle UK’s #MoreWomen campaign (their most successful ever), it paved the way for “The Sleepwalker” to drop at the end of last month.
The new single–described by producer Matthew Herbert as “bristl[ing] with the friction of real life”–was inspired by an intense sleepwalking episode the singer experienced one Christmas in Copenhagen. Nestled among its unique library of samples are recordings of Zilla’s own sleep-talking. Its springy beat effortlessly carries her laid-back vocal as she explores about the loss of control that came with her unique experience.
