Listen: Young Wonder - "Enchanted"
If there's something that pop music is absolutely ace at, it's offering escapism. The world is gritty, mean, and often grey; pop music lends us the rose-coloured lenses through which to see a bright, shiny, friendly world, even if only for 3 minutes.
Cork electro-pop duo Young Wonder is no stranger to this musical duty of theirs and they deliver it in spades on their latest single, "Enchanted", which we here at Best Fit are pleased as punch to premiere.
Flowering from a keyboard arpeggio, Rachel Koeman's vocal steps lightly and deftly before lifting off into the chorus alongside walls of synth, punctuated intermittently by peerlessly placed accents of bells, jingles, and laser beams. At the centre of this heady stew are Koeman's trepidations of what the future holds and the ability to recapture life's magical moments:
“It’s an issue I’ve always been fascinated with. ‘Enchanted’ is about the struggle to live your life free of worry and of fear. The hope that tomorrow will be different, and that fear will lose.”
"Enchanted" will be available 16 March on Feel Good Lost and the duo is working on their debut LP slated for later this year as well as planning upcoming live dates, so keep your eyes open and ears to the ground.
