Along with SZA and Tove Lo, Londoner YADi has stolen the show as far as rising vocalists go in 2013. New track ‘Creatures’ throws more weight behind her burgeoning rep with another stunning, sultry delivery.
Co-written with Ariel Rechtshaid (Haim, Vampire Weekend and Solange), who produced alongside The Very Best member and Dan Croll engineer Johan Hugo, ‘Creatures’ finds Hannah delving into the origins of humanity and otherworldly beings via a super-slick pop arrangement.
Slinky piano chords meander into the first exultant chorus around the minute mark, with the soft-centre to Hannah’s controlled vocal shaken loose, sending smooth syllables, runny ‘oohs’ and ‘we are only human’s flowing over marshy programmed blips and lilting bass notes. Another perfectly weighted demonstration of the youngster’s classy pristine pop nous.
‘Creatures’ will be released through YADi’s own label, Seven Brother Records on 22 August, with a launch show at Islington’s Old Queens Head that evening.
