Listen: X Priest X – “Sophie K”
There’s a lot of Xs at play in pop music at the moment. Charli XCX, Allie X and also Florida’s own X Priest X. The latter duo deal in pristine pop with heartfelt, soaring lyrics and are continuing in the same direction with new song, “Sophie K”.
The track follows the addictive, sticky synth-loop heavy, “Isn’t It So”. On this new number, the tempo is taken down, with Madeleine Priest dragging each word until there’s no breath left in her lungs, calling out lovingly “Sophie K, don’t lose your way”. It’s an anthemic slow-burner that sounds like it could’ve been featured in a pivotal scene of an 80s teen film and undoubtedly not the only one of its kind they’ve got to offer us.
X Priest X’s EP Samurai is set for release on 15 April via Emotion.
