Don't let yourself be confused by the name Winter. It refers not to the season - a season which Winter's music by no means represents - but instead originates from Samira Winter, the band's Brazilian/American singer and half of the initial band. Since their 2012 EP Daydreaming, Winter sounds warmer than ever, no doubt down to the group's relocation from Boston to LA. The rays of the Golden State have injected some extra sunshine as well as two new band members into the now-quartet's already addictive indie pop.
Bassist Edward Breckenridge and Drummer Christina Gaillard have joined guitarist Matt Hogan and Samira Winter for "Someone Like You", a track both upbeat enough to bop along with yet laid back enough to daydream to. It's the first off upcoming debut album Supreme Blue Dream, due out March 10 via Echo Park label Lollipop Records. With influences ranging from Yo La Tengo and shoegaze, to Real Estate and krautrock, a debut full-length as accessible and well-balanced as this single promises fans of Sunday afternoons by the pool many minutes of satisfaction.
Speaking about the track, the band said: "'Someone Like You' - As the songs starts the pitch bent messed up synth sound grabs your attention. A dreamy synth come in right after and takes you to a spatial world, a different universe. Inspired by more industrial, Krautrock, space electronics concepts, this track is very upbeat and attention grabbing. It makes you want to move and at least your bob. This song was one of the first ones we worked on. Samira was initially inspired by the song, “Today is the Day”, by Yo La Tengo when writing the tune. However, Eley envisioned this track to be more pop and upbeat and wanted to add exciting synth sounds. So the track became a mix of both worlds - electronic and rock- with a Real Estate sort of ending."
