Boston’s Darin Thompson aka Windbreaker delivers hazily sauntering, rough and ready melodies over an underlying breezy pop beat on new track ‘I Hate My Soul’.
With riffs that ascend meekly from low reverberations up to a hook constructed of murky Jay Reatard-esque vocals, churning out ‘I don’t know why I stay here/ I don’t know why I can’t live alone’, ‘I Hate My Soul’ is contagiously catchy. Despite the lyrical themes of self loathing, explicitly referred to in the title, the track floats on its breezy pop foundations and fleeting verses, with its euphoric, danceable beat juxtaposed against narcoleptic wailings.
Debut EP Let It Go is released on 11 November via Heart Throb Records, both digitally and on a limited run of fifty cassettes. Pre-order here.
