Zoom in up-close on a relationship with the sparkling soft-pop of Wilma Nea's “Stalemate”
Swedish artist Wilma Nea introduced herself earlier this year with her EP Issues, which highlighted her talent for understated but meaningful songwriting. Now she’s back with “Stalemate”, and it's very much a track that lives in that same world.
“Stalemate”, fittingly for its title, is a song about a relationship’s over-and-back - the claustrophobic moments where both parties are struggling to make the connections work.
Wilma Nea tells that story over music that’s up-close and intimate, as you’d imagine from a song written at home in a one-room flat. It's soft pop that whispers in your ear, but with a sparkling chorus that makes “Stalemate” stand out.
Wilma Ås, the Swedish artist behind the project, says: “The track was brought to life when I found this lovely warm piano sound and then the lyrics just came to me”.
