Listen: White Lies – There Goes Our Love Again (Night Engine Remix) [Premiere]
In its original iteration ‘There Goes Our Love Again’ is full of 80s power chords and rousing synths, but much of that is stripped away in Night Engine’s remix, giving the track a solidly 2013 RnB vibe.
The London synth-pop band – themselves not averse to the retro aesthetic and dancehall anthems of the decade – approach the White Lies single with a fine-toothed comb, drawing the vocals to the forefront while letting the beat build gradually in a seemingly smoky haze.
Slowing down and singling out the ‘I didn’t go far, I didn’t go far, I didn’t go far and I came home’ refrain, and accentuating the synth and guitar solos at a lone bridge, the remix, true to form, gives the track a new feel. A little darker and a lot more haunting, Night Engine deepen the pre-existing grooves taking the track from anthem to slow jam.
‘There Goes Our Love Again (Night Engine Remix)’ will be released on White Lies’ There Goes Our Love Again (Remixes) album, out 23 August.
