Watch: Richie Quake – “Visions”
NYC electronic balladeer Richie Quake presents “Visions” – a welcome introduction to the artist who released his debut album just before Christmas came a-knocking.
It’s a delight to hear Quake’s opening feathered vocal chords stretch into deep, soulful sighs at the song’s centre, stomping atop sulky piano notes, scuffed beats and bass wobs. This style of electro crooning doesn’t sound a million miles away from James Blake’s “Retrograde”, though “Visions” doesn’t take itself quite so seriously.
The accompanying video (directed by Mat Segar) pays homage to nostalgia, spliced with home video footage and dreamy flits through a secret garden.
Quake’s debut album of the same name follows on from a string of EPs released over 2012/2013, but “Visions” is surely the work that will get him most noticed.
