Watch: Kwabs – “Last Stand” [Session Version]
Since “Wrong Or Right” made its way to my ears last month, I’ve been slightly obsessed with Kwabs. His richly soulful voice coupled with SOHN’s pitch perfect production led to a track that is probably going to sit near the top of my favourite tracks of 2014 for most of the year, and we’re only in the second month.
Since then, Kwabs has released his Wrong Or Right EP. Now, to commemorate that, he has recorded a session version of “Last Stand”.
This simpler version of the song exchanges SOHN’s throbbing basslines and moody synths for a heavier cellos and guitars, creating a whole other vibe. Gone is the malevolence that rumbled beneath the original; it’s instead been replaced by a fragile beauty
Of course, as is the case with most Kwabs tracks now, his voice takes centre stage. His beautifully deep vocals, loaded with emotion, adapt to the softer feel of the track with ease. It’s a commanding voice that’s rich with passion and warmth; one that is an absolute joy to listen to over and over again.
