Watch: Girl With The Gun – “Hover”
Matilde Davoli and Andrea Mangia, the Italian partnership behind Girl With The Gun, have dropped their newest track, “Hover”, with a frenetic aerobics acid-trip of a clip.
Attempting to keep pace with warped astronomical images lends the increasingly distorted guitars a sense of urgency, undercut by the hazy drone of Davoli and Mangia’s vocals, despairing “there’s no antidote/for your hips”. The bouncing high kicks of the dancers fill the whole thing with an absurd energy, which is never quite matched by the duo’s psychedelic indie pop. Inspiration for a Friday boogie this is not.
The cuts get faster as the images become yet more kaleidoscopic, with the swirling riff reaching its crescendo before the whole thing ends. It’s enough to exhaust a viewer, but one hell of a fun ride anyway.
