Fanzine are well on their way to becoming one of our favourite live bands in the country right now and this video goes some way to explaining why. There’s nothing new about them…. nothing original, yet they’re far from being a throwback band to the college rock boom of the nineties. A contradiction in terms perhaps but that’s exactly why we love them so. On stage or in person, they appear nonchalant but are in fact utterly charming. Their trailer-trash chic image, projecting a ‘couldn’t give a damn’ slacker vibe may rub off on their production ethics, but their inherent songcraft and musical ability is second to none.
This live version of ‘My Stupid Brain’ or rather the opening lyric, defines the band to a tee. “I’m lazy, I’m crazy, but I’m still an affable guy”. Self damning yet completely beguiling. Filmed at London’s XOYO late last year by the talented guys over at Castle Film, enjoy the six minute clip above.
